Described by Thomas Berry as "the most creative, the most comprehensive, surely the most challenging religious-spiritual teacher in America", Mathew Fox blends wisdom from Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist and the indigenous peoples of Africa and America into discovering the most appropriate way of life and action. He teaches a response to our ecological crises by deeply appreciating nature and helping people expand their capacity for awe and wonder, by affirming traditional beliefs and discovering their relevancy for the future. He is the founder of the University of Creation Spirituality.
A spiritual theologian who has been an ordained priest since 1967, he holds Masters degrees in philosophy and theology from Aquinas Institute and a Doctorate in spirituality, summa cum laude, from the Institut Catholiques de Paris. Author of 24 books, he's received the 1994 Award for Achievement in Creative Spirituality, the 1995 Courage of Conscience Award, the 1996 Tikkun National Ethics Award and twice received the Body Mind Spirit Award of Excellence for outstanding books in print.
Fox exemplifies the vision of the Sustainable Resources 2003 conference by fostering a more multidisciplinary approach to development, bringing compassion to technology and more practical know-how to contemplative traditions.
