Space rockets, genetic technology, nano-technology, and information technology are pervading the world. At the same time, billions live below the poverty line. Scientists and engineers face a challenge to bridge this gap and to help rural communities raise their economic level. This talk emphasizes how to "modernize the traditional - traditionalize the modern” and Dr. Jagadeesh will discuss his experience with solar driers, vertical and cylindrical solar water heater, hand operated battery chargers, pedal operated washing machines, "everybody's colored jaga”, SODIS (disinfecting water by using plastic soda bottles), traditional methods of curing some diseases, and multiple uses of the periscope.
BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Jagadeesh is Professor and Head of Research and Development at the Centre for Energy and Sustainable Development, R.M.K.Engineering College,Tamil Nadu. He is also setting up an Energy Park and teaching a class on Renewable Energy for graduate students. Dr A.Jagadeesh a scientist, innovator and a social reformer all blended into one has been championing the cause and use of Science and Technology to better living standards for all people. His motto is "Technology with a human face". Dr A.Jagadeesh has been dedicating his energies in designing,demonstrating and dissiminating technologies like:
