Rooftop Gardening Methods

Dr. Price taught organic and biochemistry at Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. He did three years post-doctoral work at Purdue University in agriculture. He became Executive Director of ECHO in 1981. Dr. Price is an elder in the Presbyterian Church in America, and a member of the honorary society Phi Beta Kappa. He is co-author of the book Amaranth to Zai Holes: Ideas for Growing Food Under Difficult Conditions and editor the quarterly bulletin for agricultural development workers sent to well over 3,000 individuals in 140 countries, ECHO Development Notes. Dr. Price has led ECHO for 22 years as it serves missionaries and development workers who help small farmers and gardeners.

ECHO answers technical questions, provides introductory seed packets for lesser-known tropical plants that have special use in some situations. ECHO offers a one year internship in tropical agricultural missions; has low-cost methods for growing food above-ground (e. g. rooftops, rocky soil, tree roots, etc); welcomes missionaries to study and for help in planning gardening or agricultural projects and sponsor conferences for Christian agricultural workers in the USA and overseas. ECHO Development Notes, our networking newsletter. This publication features ideas for potential projects, information about new techniques, and offers of seed for new introductions.
