David Sowerwine manages EcoSystems Private Limited, a small company he and
his wife founded in Nepal in 1997 to develop, manufacture and market appropriate
technology solutions for the needs of Nepal's rural people. Twentyfour
'WireBridges' have been completed in the past four years. The company is actively
developing other cable-based transport systems and human powered electric
generators. EcoSystems is a finalist in the economic development category of the San
Jose Tech Museum's award program for 2003.
David is currently coordinating the preparation of a business plan for a
comprehensive, sustainable public private partnership that would address all the
development needs of Kavre, one of Nepal's districts.
Resident in Nepal since 1991, David has provided marketing, technical and
management services to private, volunteer, donor and government organizations.
Client activities include commercial and community forestry, vegetable seed
production, brambleberry and protea production, solid waste management, and
video-based education. David helped organize the AgroEnterprise Centre in Nepal, and
is a founding member of FIIN, the Forum of International Investors in Nepal.
Before coming to Nepal David worked as a planner and manager with Esso
Standard Eastern (energy), Castle and Cooke (agriculture), Raychem (material
science), and in several Silicon Valley startups (electronics, software, and
horticulture). He studied chemical engineering and received an MBA, both at Stanford.
