International Center for Tropical Agriculture

I work for CIAT, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, located at Cali, Colombia. I work with the cassava crop, a starchy root that is widely used in tropical regions of the world as a source of energy (the roots) and protein (the leaves).

I am the Executive Director of CLAYUCA, a Latin American and Caribbean
Consortium to support cassava research and development. We are currently
working in nine countries of the region and one of our main areas of work is
the promotion of agroindustries, through which farmers can add value to
their production and generate higher incomes and employment.

My main interest in attending the forum is to find out about possibilities
of introducing appropriate technologies to the work we are doing; for
example we use petrol engines to run the chippers that reduce the size of
the roots before the drying process. Probably we can adapt solar-driven
motors to this process. Is it feasible?

So, things like this I am interested in finding out.

Thanks a lot for your attention,
