Renewing the Spirit of Community

“The path to a successful global economy, can only be through having successful, sustainable and healthy local community economies everywhere!”…Bruce L. Erickson, New York University, October, 2001 Community Renewal: Creating & sustaining healthy community is an essential priority everywhere in the world today. It’s only within sustainable community that people can thrive and the ecological heath of the region is maintained. What is being proposed is that true sustainability is not just the effect of just aid or technology, it’s also found within the spirit of the people within the community. Creation of sustainability is the effect of what happens when people care and act with respectful wisdom. The true shift to sustainable communities will happen when people from the developed world make it a serious priority to help others lift themselves from the poverty, while respecting there culture, values and their customs. This would be a citizens initiative, enlisting the help of enlightened local leadership combined with enlightened leadership from those that are intending to help. Consider what would happen if the developed world initiated a “adopt of village program”, whereby communities with resources use them to help a community far less fortunate? How could that work and what would the criteria be for such a program? Now it’s time to create that revolution, creating sustainable communities everywhere that honor all life in the process of their creation!
