Permaculture- Understanding its Roots

What exactly is Permaculture? Many people have heard the word yet can’t quite put it into words. This workshop aims at breaking down some of the barriers so that attendees will come away with a firm understanding of Permaculture design and how to apply these concepts and fundamentals to their daily lives. With its roots in sustainable agriculture, Permaculture envelops methodologies for sustainable living design including energy production, water catchment strategies, land based economies, organic food production, appropriate technology, human dynamics and housing. Permaculture is a design methodology that seeks the utilization of appropriate resources, the maximization of efficiency, and the goal of self-reliance. Through proper planning, a bit of foresight, a small farm can become a haven for a communities food supply, and a stable anchor for their work force. But most of all, Permaculture is empowering people to live more sustainably on our fragile planet. Through words, slides &/or video, participants will learn the basic Permacultural design strategies to apply in a variety of climates. We will explore the intrinsic values of integrating a variety of elements to a small farm, guild plantings in food forests, a variety of composting strategies, and efficient design strategies.
