Move over politicians & make room for global citizens

The 2ND Annual Sustainable Resources Conference brings 800 attendees from 75 countries for lively, multi-faceted gathering in Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. – Sept. 28, 2004 -  With all due respect to the renowned World Affairs Conference, there’s a new globally-minded and -attended conference in town, the ‘2nd Annual Sustainable Resources Conference,’ and its producer, local not-for-profit Sustainable Resources, believes there is plenty of room for both because the timely issues on agenda for both conferences are complementary. This multi-disciplinary, grassroots conference on sustainable development, technology and resource management takes place September 27 through October 5, 2004 at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
“The conference brings together engineers and spiritual groups, entrepreneurs and corporations, environmentalists and the military, educators and philanthropists to share practical solutions to world problems,” says Steve Troy, Executive Director.
“Many organizations with huge complementary potential never talk to each other. Sustainable Resources 2004 provides a ‘meeting of the mind' and a platform for multi-disciplinary exchange, ” added Troy.
This year’s global gathering focuses on “Solutions to World Poverty,” and is co-sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), CU Leeds School of Business, and National Collegiate Inventors & Innovators  Alliance, to name a few. Registration is open to anyone interested in issues of sustainability and international development; a portion of the conference will also be open to the general public. Full registration is $300 for general public, $275 for non-profit, $150 for students and seniors, with $95 day rates and $25 individual session rates.
The conference revolves around fourteen major themes and tracks: Creating Sustainable Peace, Eco-tourism That Works, Feeding the World, The Younger Generation, Learning from Native Cultures, Life’s Designs, Creating and Crossing Digital Bridges, New Economic Paradigms, Developing World Economic Models, Practical Energy, Reinventing Education for a Sustainable World, Sustainable Building Solutions, Sustaining Human Health, and Water for Life.

Speaker highlights include: William McDonough, ecological design expert and author of  Cradle to Cradle; Riane Eisler, anthropologist and author of the  international bestseller The Chalice & The Blade, Dr. A.T.  Ariyaratne, known as "the Gandhi of our era;" and Lynne Twist, author of  Soul of Money.
An exhibition will run throughout the  conference to showcase products that promote sustainable practices as well  as initiatives by organizations from around the world. Inventors and  entrepreneurs will display their technologies and services, ranging from  solar ovens, to machines that run on biodiesel  fuel converted from restaurant cooking oil, to straw  bale construction materials.

“We are thrilled with the response we have had from people around the world,” says Pippa Sorley, conference co-organizer and PR Director. "We're looking forward to creating long-lasting partnerships that link projects with tangible resources, designed around the UN's Millennium Development  Goals."
Sustainable Resources Conference 2004 sponsors also include CU Leeds School of Business, Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Global Plan Initiative, National Collegiate Inventors  & Innovators Alliance, Brock Publishing, Heifer International, United Nations Environment Programme, ICS UNIDO, Regis  University, Elephant Magazine and Colorado  Daily.
