New Economic Paradigms: Developing World Economic Model

"Give a man a fish and he eats for a day; teach a man to fish and he eats forever." Provide "fishing poles," and true independence and sustainability arise. Real development goes far beyond charity and the donation model. Examples include microenterprise businesses, microcredit and lending, open source and alternative currencies. These efforts are built on dreams and hard work, but the assistance they need is often in short supply. Nowhere is this more apparent than in parts of the world where equipment, transportation and reliable electricity and telecommunications can be hard to come by. This track seeks to complement the partnership between new economic ventures in developing countries and their supporting organizations, new connections that will enable businesses to locate the resources they need, increase their customer base and expand their efforts into new places and markets. In an effort to avoid "reinventing the wheel" or falling into the pitfalls of previous projects, these sessions facilitate the sharing of experiences and wisdom between people in different parts of the world but facing similar challenges.
