Children's Torch of Hope
Brief
History
In 1986, during the first Earth Run, The Torch of Hope was carried around
the planet and touched by millions of people. Men, women, village children,
political and spiritual leaders infused the torch with their prayers for
peace and the earth’s health, creating a symbol of hope. Joc Crusoe’s
son took it to the top of Mt. Everest, and to the bottom of the ocean.
It was also held by the Pope and passed on to the hands of the Dalai Lama,
where he dedicated this torch to children, and to people working towards
creating a better world for future generations.
In 1995, the Earth Guardians were given the honor of carrying this emblem
across the United States and into the United Nations. Still to this day,
the torch is used in youth events and conferences all around the world.
Continuing this vision, The Children’s Torch of Hope has
come here for the Sustainable Resources Conference. At the conference
we will instill our prayers, dreams, and dedication to create sustainability
inside ourselves and on the earth. For the seventh generation, we are
committed to leave the planet more beautiful and healthy than we found
it.
The Children’s Torch of Hope will have an important role in both
the opening and closing ceremonies. During lunch on Saturday, Oct. 2nd,
all of the youth attending the conference will join together to put their
intentions and dreams for the future into this powerful symbol of hope.
