Feeding the World

Feeding the World sessions and workshops focus on individuals, families, communities, and organizations from diverse biological regions who are working towards creating sustainable food systems at the local, regional, and/or global levels. In particular, Feeding the World will emphasize the following 5 approaches:

1. Watershed and Bioregional approaches and practices that create healthy food systems by:
• Implementing new and old methods and technologies for sustainably growing food and/or raising domesticated animals
• Recovering indigenous approaches and methods
• Working with native and adapted plants appropriate to one's region
• Increasing biodiversity of plants and animals

2. Ways to empower disadvantaged urban and rural populations to grow their own food, improve their food security, and strengthen their economic stability

3. Innovative ways for individuals and communities to secure land and water for growing food, restoring habitat, and preserving cultural diversity and heritage

4. Collaborative local and regional economic initiatives that increase food security for all (e.g. Community Supported Agriculture, "buy local" campaigns, farming and ranching cooperatives, community-owned resources).

5. Creating a "You Can Feed the World" initiative: 101 daily ways citizens of industrialized countries can create clean, abundant resources for all, to feed all. Economic practices, choices, and habits that promote healthy ecosystems, economies, and food systems
